Another great Vandalia report rolls in
As is their wont, Fork You brings us a delightfully detailed writeup of Charleston’s revamped Vandalia Grille.
“This place is a home run. Skip corporate, over-marketed, unimaginative chains at South Ridge and head downtown for a unique meal in a comfortable setting, you won’t be disappointed.”

To cut a long, detailed, and packed-with-excellent-photos review criminally short, they loved it. So did Chris, when he checked it out last week, although I think he’d disagree (as is his wont) with their favorable view of the decor. Those sweet potato fries and blackened scallops sound unmissable.

I can understand Chris’ point of view. He did seem to like the scallops and sweet potato fries, but since his visit was at a time allowing him to consume a legal beverage or four, he expected a decent selection. When I went to Vandalia, it was on lunch hour so I wasn’t permitted to endulge.
I suppose the moral of the story is that Vandalia might be a better spot for lunch or those who are not beer officienados, than for those who desire a bar atmosphere and large selection of brews.

Just wanted to let you know about the terrible, awful, disappointing, and comical experience that myself and friends had at VG. I once was a fan and a regular at this spot, but now, perhaps with the new managment owners it has turned into my least favorite spot in town. Wait times are quite ridiculous, food quality is below medicore, service is nonexistant, what the heck has happened?????? Very sad, not sure what the future holds for VG.
